When did we get an eight year old???

Clark got to have a birthday party on the day of his birthday, September 1st. We held it at the Overijse Park and invited 8 of his friends from church and school. All week the forecast was for rain on Saturday, but instead we got a beautiful sunny morning. We went over to the park early and put up balloons, and decorated a couple of picnic tables. The theme was ARMY. Both Clark and Blake dressed appropriately:

Mama made a camo birthday cake, complete with a tank and army guys.

We found some firework/candles for his cake and the boys loved that. But I guess the age eventually comes when you get embarrassed when your friends sing you happy birthday. This picture makes it look like Clark may have reached that age already.

However, you can trust me that no 8 year old boy is embarrassed about eating the cake!

You'll notice that we painted camo stripes on the boys faces if they wanted. Here is Clark with his best friend Philip.

For games we did "grenade training" with water balloons and "bomb testing" with regular balloons. We did "strength training" with an obstacle course and "paratrooper training" on the zip-line. It was a great party. Here is a picture of Clark opening his present from Blake:

And here is a picture of Clark opening his gift from Grandma Hamm:

Katie was such a good little girl during the party. Here she is sunning herself in this rare Belgian sunshine.
